Spend a full day in my Door County woodworking workshop learning to MikroFrame. This is an intense, two-participant, fast-paced day focusing on how to use MikroFraming to build beds, raised garden beds and small roofed structures for resale. This session is intended ONLY for woodworkers that are intending to use MikroFraming in their business AND are well versed on the safe use of a tablesaw and sliding compound miter saw. You will also be using a Jet 1 1/2" HP shaper, several hand-held routers and other specialty tools, all of which I will provide the brief how-to-use training.
Immediately after enrollment you will receive a link to a downloadable printable PDF versions of the very detailed CutList, Materials List and Sequencing steps for you to study prior to attending this session. Registered attendees will also receive login credentials to a private YouTube playlists to view video tutorials guiding you through the build of this project.
All materials to build one 4' x 4' MikroGarden Raised Garden Bed will be provided including red cedar lumber to build the panels, your option of treated or cedar for the posts, all permanent and knock-down hardware and your choice of "filler" (porcelain tile, cedar boards, corrugated steel...).
Again, this is a very fast-paced, one-day session. Depending on your skill-level and work speed you may or may not complete your raised garden bed in just one day. You will, however, have completed all steps requiring any special tooling and will have the training to complete, at home, any minor finishes. You will also have learned how to build other MikroFraming projects including our, coming soon, MikroBeds and MikroShelters.
Certified Framer Program
During the session participants will be provided a "MikroStation", an 11" x 40" x 1" table designed to hold 4 R&R clamps and intended to be clamped to a Kreg, Festool or similar type work table and will then keep this station to take back with. Those already owning R&R clamps will be asked to bring with. I will provide clamps that day for those that do not own R&R but mine will stay with me after class. Participants planning to use this jig later will need to purchase their own R&R clamps. (12" okay but 24" offers future versatility on larger projects)
After leaving this session participants will have access to our Members-Only online store where they can purchase our exclusive patented MikroTenons, copyrighted project plans, templates and benefit from our bulk purchases of 3rd party hardware such as the GRK screws, threaded bolts etc. You may also post questions, suggestions etc. to our Members-Only MikroFraming Group in Facebook and in our DoorCountyRustic.com chat room, both of which I monitor and respond to daily. SketchUp Geek Members agreeing to honor our copyright terms can purchase the downloadable SketchUp (.skp) file for this MikroGarden project
HOW TO REGISTER FOR THIS SEMI-PRIVATE TRAINING FOR SEMI-PRO WOODWORKERS
Pick a day in early or mid February of 2024 that works for you then Contact Me to confirm availability. Come together otherwise you may be joined by up to one more woodworker in your session.
MikroFraming is the "perfect storm" for creating amazing projects from off-the-shelf lumber and yet they don't look like the many YouTuber DIY from 2 x 4's stuff. Attendees will learn how to convert off-the-shelf, always "In Stock", and amazingly affordable red cedar boards into a very classy-looking, super strong raised garden bed without spending hours planing and emptying dust bags. Trust me on this one! We have a hiking trail in our woods named: Sawdust Lane". Those days are history with MikroFraming.
There are 4 "Posts" on most MikroFramed projects. During this session you will use a CNC-created Template and a hand-held router to create very shallow , mortises to help mount my patented , metal, threaded MikroTenons. When you leave you will take these custom Templates home with you to build more MikroGardens
A key component to MikroFraming is the fabricating of the 4 "I-Beam" shaped sides, aka "Panels". To achieve maximum strength against the outward pressure of saturated garden bed soil these panels are a "United We Stand, Divided we Fall" concept. Attendees will use a Jet Shaper, a drillpress, Hinge Bits, Forstners to create the multi-board I-Beam Panels.
Porcelain Tile and Natural Slate are ideal materials for Raised Garden Beds. In this session all attendees will make several cuts of tile on my IQ 288 Cyclone and using a hand-held Milwaukee 12V 3" diamond blade cutter. If you decide you like the look and benefits of using tile in the bed you take home then do just that. I will have several patterns and colors for you to select and take home.
Cedar is still the go-to choice on most raised garden beds but most of those garden beds use it in the store-bought 2" thick boards. Not with MikroFraming. All attendees will learn how to use very inexpensive Cedar "Picket Fence" boards to achieve a pressure resistance factor much greater than 2" material at only a fraction of the cost. If you like the look and benefits of using cedar filler then have at it to finish and take home your garden bed with that as your filler.
